reinstalled photoshop - not having trouble

i made a few sigs before that came out pretty nice. i used the eliptical marque tool to select an image and pasted it onto another image and it would 'fade' it into that image.. i included a picture that i made just for reference so you know what im talking about...

but anyway i cant get it to fade the picture into another one now, it just pastes itself onto it.

you can see how i faded the boost gauge and the picture of the srt into it but it wont let me do that anymore.. do i need to set some options?

You probably had feathering on your eliptical selection tool. When you have that tool selected look at the tool options bar at the top and try putting a number in for feathering.

you rule. i just put in a random # like 50 and it worked. i couldn't figure it out before lol but it seems to work now. whats a good # to use or is it just the higher the # the more of a fade it gives?

You got it. The higher the number the more it fades the selection. Just mess around with the number until you get a fade you like.
