I would like to create borders or frames around some of my images before posting or printing. In the "edit" menu the "stroke" option is greyed out.
Help much appreciated. thanks. _________________ Dance among the moonbeams, feel the magic in the air. |

You can only stroke a selection using the Edit menu options. You could use a layer style for stroke, but be aware it will stoke whatever is on that layer. Welcome to the forum. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

As above - in the edit menu the stroke option is greyed out. _________________ Dance among the moonbeams, feel the magic in the air. |

Are you in indexed colour space rather than RGB? _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

hi,
don't know what tool you have activated....
don't if your trying to stroke a path or a selection.. lacking details make it difficult to come up with a anwere...
if youhave the pen tool activated then the edit>stroke will be greyed out...
how ever with the the pen tool you can right click on a path and stroke....
or you can click one of the selection buttons and then you can go to edit>stroke ....
but remember you have to have either a path or selection in place before you can stroke... |

I'm very much a Photoshop newbie, can do basic levels and curves. I was trying to follow this Tutorial: http://www.jaycjayc.com/photoshop-tutorial-simple-photoborder-frame-1/
I've just tried again but am obviously doing something incorrectly.
I'm in RGB colour.
I clicked on path on the same area as channels but still stroke is greyed out.
Thanks for your responses. _________________ Dance among the moonbeams, feel the magic in the air. |

hi,
i looked at the turtorial... not sure why you are look at channels????
now "path" gnerally refers when you make something a line with the pen tool or you convert a selection to a vector "path"
now also when something is greyed out in the menus it usually because of the mode your in or a particular you got click, or some special effect is still active...
so when your going to use edit>stroke have your bush tool click just to be sure... smiling...
now there 3 tutorials there which one are you trying to do 1,2 or 3 and what step....
maybe by looking at that i can see why you can't do the edit>stroke routine ..
final note.... if your doing the first one.... then just make sure something like the brush is selected and not the pentool then you should be able to make your simple frame ... |

I didn't look at channels - I was trying to explain that I went into "paths" which is in the same area as layers and channels ...
I'm attempting the first tutorial.
I open and duplicate my image, then close the original.
Step 2. Next, go to Edit > Stroke (or right-click on image with the Marquee Tool – tap M, and select Stroke). A dialog box (as shown)
When I do this "stoke" is still greyed out, even when I first select the brush tool as suggested.
Thanks - I'm looking for other tutorials to see if I can do those instead :-)
It sometimes take me a while to understand what it meant in the instructions.
Thanks for your time, much appreciated. _________________ Dance among the moonbeams, feel the magic in the air. |

hi,
another possiblity of why it grey out....
make sure that the layer you working on
you have both the eye turn on and you got that layer hilighted.... if your hililghted on a layer where you do not have the eye turn on strke will be greyed out among a whole lot of other things |

hi again....
when you first open the image....
are you doing the following...
you should go to the "select " menu and select "all"
at this point you should see what we call dancing ants along the edge of the image ..that indicate the whole image is selected..
at this point should be able to go to edit andclick "stroke" and procede from there.. |
