Aah!! Yes the select all gives me the stroke option. Thanks so much. I have to go out right now but will have a play when I get home.

hi,
great ! i figured that you either had the pen tools selected or you skipping the select> all ....

just a note if you had dup the backgroundlayer...

or unlocked the background layer you would have found you didn't to do the select all.... one of those little things with photoshop and you will come across a lot of them...lol i found out the hardway myself...lol..

oh a couple of tip since i see your going to work with the elyptical tool probably don't need it for the tutorial but in future it can help

hold down shift + click and drag will allow you to make a perfect circle ......

hold down alt + click and drag changes the behavior on how a elyptical created you really have to experiment to see for yourself..... basically it expands in both directions at same time
