Hi, I have version 7 on Win xp sp2. Recently I have noticed that it freezes when I try to pick a colour with the colour picker. The mouse stays active but all the menus are greyed out and are unable to be chosen. So I have to kill the app to get anywhere. This sometimes happens at other times too. I am not sure whether this started after the upgrade to xp sp2. (It may have been before, or after, and just be a coincidence - but I doubt it.)

Is this a common/known issue? Will a reinstall (I'd rather avoid that) solve it ?

Cheers all.

Have you updated to 7.0.1?
PS7, straight out of the box, had many problems.

EDIT-
Another thought... are you seeing the Color Picker dialog box after you click on the foreground color swatch? It could be the dialog is off screen, which would cause the symptoms you describe.

Try trashing your prefs: Hold down the Shift+Alt+Cntrl keys as you launch Photoshop. You'll get a dialog to reset your preference settings.

I believe I am v7.0.1 but will have to wait until I get home to check. I thought the dialogue might be offscreen (but that shouldn't be able to happen should it? You can't drag it there can you?) I'll give your suggestion a try. It would certainly make sense.

No, it shouldn't happpen, but can if you have changed monitor resloution, or have been hooked up to another monitor. And I think there was an issue with this problem and PS7. Let us know if trashing the prefs fixes it.

Hey, whadda ya know! It works again (or seems to so far).

Thanks for your help. I'd read other of "freeze" problems being solved by dialogues being off screen in these forums but I couldn't see how it could have happened. I also had "this program is not responding" in task manager which misled me entirely.

Cheers, cheers, cheers!
