i use 7,

its much faster then 8 and its just the same

I don’t know how your machine is set up, but don’t see a slow-down between 7 and 8. Now Photoshop 9 I’ve read can have some performance problems- maybe to do with the box’s video card.
The only thing I can think of that is slower in 8, is liquefy command; that’s because Adobe changed the preview from a low-res draft to full res image.

And I certainly use:
Type along Path
Shadow/Highlight Adjustment (don’t know what I’d do with out that)
16 bit editing
Customizable Keyboard Shortcuts
Live Histogram
Adobe Camera Raw converter

And my favorite feature: a little toggle to switch crop dimensions back-and-forth

I'd argree with Chadland, I don't find CS (v8.0) any slower than 7,0 Now CS 2 (v9,0) is slower, to the point I don't use it unless I really need one of the new features (not often) and as for the "new" adobe bridge.... well the words that come to mind have no place on decent website like this, but painfully slow and unstable are about the best I could say about mine (and I tried most of the fixes from adobes site)
I don't like the new layer palette, why change something that works and everybody used to?
Stick with 7.0 and see what happens when CS3 comes out, hopefully they will have sorted out the problems and added more new goodies! Wayne

I use CS2 on windows, and

CS on linux, as cs2 is very buggy on linux

ok, i've got a REAL slow pc (192 MB ram, Intel Celeron, 64 mb video and 2.7 Ghz) so i use 7, but doesn't version 7 have shadow and highlight?

Nope.
And boy, you could really benefit from more RAM. It's cheap. You will be amazed how much it can improve PS performance.

Another thign that cs has that 7 doesnt is the filter gallery, just thought of that, and ys, get more ram, you can get a very high quality ram stick, 400mhz, pc 4000 with latency timings of 2-2-2-8 for around £57 now, which is going to help your ps performance amazingly

I'm running CS2 on a Windows XP machine. I haven't had any real problems with lag or crashes. It's certainly an improvement over PS6, which I was using for a number of years.

Swanseamale47, you mentioned that the Layers palette shouldn't have been changed. I have to disagree there. First of all, the differences don't make it so you have to work differently--they just add more options. All that was really changed was the way layer linking worked. But the BIG addition was the ability to select multiple layers at once, which often makes layer linking superfluous. This multiple-layer-selection option is a HUGE benefit of using CS2, and I use it frequently. What is there to dislike? I admit, the new linking system is a little less convenient. But doesn't multiple layer selection outweigh this minor setback by far?

Yes, that sounds like a good idea, it will make photoshop run so much faster, and it doesnt cost much to buy a good enough pc to keep up at the moment
