have a question for the experts:
how can you apply this effect onto a gif:
I don't know what it's called, I call it the "grid effect". Obviously, it reduces the file size of the gif, without reducing the pixel size dimensions.
Here's the original, "ungridded" version.
Would appreciate any help.

p.s. there are some variations to such effect, for example, here:
I call it the "star sand effect" (don't know the actual term for it )
Dither is an intentionally applied form of noise used to randomize quantization error, preventing large-scale patterns such as color banding in images.

The effect is actually applied to the gif when saving the file using the 'save for web' dialog.
Try the settings below to make a distinct dither pattern on your own gif.
