Hi Pigpy,
Photoshop can't destruct your RAW image. On opening such a file, PS launches CameraRAW plugin (ACR) that only edits/adds metadata without affecting image itself.
After adjusting white balance, sharpness, and/or other settings and clicking "Open" (the button name may vary across ACR versions), program saves the changes (separately from the image data) and opens copy of your RAW photo as a new Photoshop document.
Now you can edit the picture (if needed) and save it to JPEG using "Save As" or "Save for Web" commands. _________________ Andrei Doubrovski
