Printing panoramic sizes

I need to do something quite quite simple but i can`t achive it..
I want to make a panoramic picture to say something like 20"x10" using cs3, when i go to upload it to a printing company i.e. photo box, the image always appears smaller.
I have tried using Genumne Fractals 5 but i do not seem to get any luck there either.
What i need is a complete idiot`s guide on how to create and print succesfully a panoramic image.
Can you help ???

Hey Morthin,

Go to Image -> Image Size and set the document dimensions to those that you want. Document size is just another way of saying 'print size'. In fact in older versions of Photoshop it was actually called 'print size'.

Ok then thanks for that..... if i was to start from scratch should i set the size of the image required that i want or can i change the size after i have created the image.

I'd highly recommend starting off with the correct size document if you know what it is before starting the project. If you're unsure, then create it as large as you can and then reduce the size when you've finished.

When working with pixels it's important that you only upsize the image when there's simply no other option, as you'll lose quality. Scaling the image down generally isn't a problem.

I am still having a bit of a problem.......... i have created a panaromic picture when i check the image size after i have opened the relevant files using photomerge it is 78.79 " x 8" with res @ 300.
When i try to resize the image to 20 x 10 " res @ 75 the houses in the picture resemble a toblerone chocolate effect which in a way is squezzed together.
Photoshop prefered it to be saved as a tiff file with a 416 mb value.
What am i doing wrong, is the file to be to be created into a 20 x 10 " file too big ??
I could do with any Bawling

idiot type suggestions.

Make sure you have the 'constrain proportions' checkbox ticked inside the Image Size dialogue box.

Thanks for answering.
When I reduce the image size from the original to 20 x 8" I click constrain proportions, it then changes back to the original size and will not allow me to change to my required size.

The dimensions of the image will have to remain the same, any changes and you'll have to crop it down to size instead of resizing to avoid the ratio probs.
t's a little confusing, so let me know if that isn't clear and I'll add some more details.
