When I'm working in Photoshop (G5, dual 1.8 gHz, 1 gig RAM) it periodically "gets stuck" and I have to click on another program window then back to Photoshop to "unstick" it.
I highly doubt it's a processor problem... I've had CS2 for about 6 months now and this is my first problem. |

What version OSX are you running?
and it runs fine after you click on another program's window? (you don't have to "Force Quit" Photoshop?)
Are you using one of the brush tools when it "gets stuck"?

I’ve heard of problems with CS2 freezing using brushes, but not “getting stuck”.
I would:
Upgrade to 10.3.9
Repair Permissions (using Disk Utility)
Trash PS prefs (hold down Shift + Option + Command as you launch Photoshop)
And uninstall any Norton anything… Norton and Photoshop do not get along on Macs.
See if it happens again, look for any commonalties when it “gets stuck”.
And don’t work over a network.

Still sticking.
I should elucidate a bit more, I think.
It's fine when it's just sitting there and usually when I'm working... however, when I switch tools, it pauses and I have to click over into another program's window then click back and I can use the tool. It's baffling. |

Try checking the Adobe.com>Support>User-to-User Forums>Photoshop-Mac. There is a thread: "Help with CS2 vs. CS speed when using tools" that has over 400 posts on the subject. See if anything sounds familiar. There seems to be a real issue with Mac CS2 and brush tools. You may be experiencing this. Last I heard, still trying to track down the culprit. You may have to wait for PS CS2.0.1!

Well, it turns out, one of those things you suggested worked perfectly, no more freezing. I think I just needed to perform those operations then reboot the computer and it seemed to fix everything. I typeset an entire news paper and had no freeze-ups. |
