Long story short, I have my camera settings set to shoot in Jpg & RAW. When I open the Jpg in Photoshop the resolution is 350dpi, Brilliant! When I open the RAW file (and then subsequently save as a .PSD or .JPG) the resolution drops to 240dpi. How do I save my RAW files (which surely should be of a higher dpi) to a jpg without the loss in resolution?

CAMERA: Sony RX100. PHOTOSHOP: CS6.

When you open the RAW file, I will presume in Adobe Camera RAW, see the attached image.

Hi Hermit, yes, thanks for reply. Am I right in assuming that I can simply change the ppi to 350 from 240?

I always used to operate under the assumption that increasing the resolution on an image was pointless as the computer cant replace what wasn't there in the first place, but would it be right to assume that a RAW file is different?

Apologies if this seems really obtuse, although Im pretty good with graphics and print design, my photo skills are pretty old school (as in, I remember dark rooms etc) ;-)

To put it another way; So can I assume, that a RAW file is non resolution specific? That the software (Adobe Camera Raw) simply defaults to 240 but that number is not representative of the image?

Yes, or is that no ;) As above, just change the numbers.

I could point you in the direction of some RAW links, but I don't know your level and hesitate to preach to the converted.
