|
|
Hi! First time posting on here.
I finished a painting in Photoshop and opened the "Save for Web and Devices" box to save it as a high res jpeg. After i had done this i noticed the original image, and any document i opened, old and new, had suddenly lost resolution. The pixels weren't blended and there seemed to be fewer colours.
Any soft-edged brushes aren't very soft any more.
The attached image shows how a soft brush looks zoomed in - but this issue is very noticeable when zoomed out too.
I've also noticed the brush strokes "cling" to other areas of colour. They get bigger when they pass over an area of colour, and smaller when they pass over the background.
Can anyone help?
It's driving me crazy! |

I can't see you're images but using "Save for Web and Devices" limits you to 256 colors.
sRGB is over 16 million colors. |

But does that affect documents not saved with "Save for Web etc"? Even new unsaved documents, and documents saved normally long ago have been affected. |

Old images that were OK now aren't?

If you open an old image in PS it doesn't look right?
How about that same old image in Internet Explorer?

I'm not sure what you mean by that.
Are you using a tablet and pen or a mouse? |

Yeah, images that were previously fine now aren't, even when opened in other programs.
Soft-edged brushes now have "lines" of solid colour fading out rather than fading out gradually
I'll link to the image on photobucket if it's not coming up here. It's very difficult to explain.

Oh, and the same issue happens whether i have my Cintiq plugged in or not. |

You're opening a previously saved file that was fine, but now in IE or any other viewer, or PS it's got problems, then I'm stumped.
But you can still create a new image in PS without the problem so I would think you can rule out the video driver.
Have you done a virus scan?
Maybe you have something that corrupts image files.
I'm lost. |

Why don't you post an image that that has a problem here so we can see the image and not your screen shots.
I don't see how but maybe it's possible the images are fine?? |

I thought it might have been my display settings but they're all the same as they always were. And the way Photoshop is behaving makes me think it isn't the display - but it could be i guess! I've checked the usual resolution settings in Photoshop and nothing's changed (unless there's a really obscure one i haven't encountered)
Ok, i'm going to post the image i first noticed the problem with.

At a distance the image looks alright - pretty much. But the problem is most noticeable (if it's not just a screen issue) in the botton left corner. The lighter-blue hill is made up of very blotchy bands of solid colour, when it used to be smooth gradients. |

Slgrey: That image appears to be fine on my screen. the only thing I can see on up to a 300% zoomed inspection is the normal JPG artifacts. otherwise the gradients seem to be very smooth. _________________ “If you lose hope, somehow you lose the vitality that keeps life moving, you lose that courage to be, that quality that helps you go on in spite of it all.
