I've scanned in an image onto my computer, and now I want to colour it in Photoshop. The problem is, background layers are pointless as the white of the original paper covers everything up that appears on the background layer. I want to make the white of the paper transparent but keep the black there. How can I do this?

Try switching the layer blend mode on the layers palette to overlay, that usually make most white things transparent (screen does the same for black) if that doesn't work you'll have to select the white with the magic wand (or colour range etc) and hit delete. Wayne |

Umm, okay, using the magic wand didn't do anything for me, it just made the background the colour of my secondary colour. So, how do I get onto the layer blend mode?
