text a flat line???

I'm trying to add text to a photo... all that happens is a straight line, no letters, what am I doing wrong?

your font color is the same as the background you're typing on, so you can't see it,

or

you're not typing on the top layer, so anothjer layer is blocking out what you're typing,

or

your text layer is on a wierd blend mode, because it is using a copied layer style. Either copy a differnt (this time visible) layer style or try purge (edit - purge I think)
