Hi,
I usually make a photoshop file and slice it partly into the picture itself (without layering everything) and party make layer based slices. It has been working well but now I have a coder who wants everything (all buttons etc) into layers, is this necessary or is he just being precise? |

Hi and welcome to the forum. I don't know whether it is strictly necessary or not, but it sounds like good organisation and best practice to me. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

Layer based slices have some advantages.
For example, if there's a need to move the artwork in the layer, then the slice moves with it automatically (so you don't have to reslice). Or you can move a group of layers into better alignment and have the slices adjust automatically.
If you resize the photo in a layer, the slice will adjust automatically. Same for a set of photos/layers.
If you add effects to the layer which increase the size (e.g outer glow), the slice size will adjust automatically.
It sounds like the coder is doing the right thing to ensure maximum ease of use and flexibility. |
