Is it possible to save work that you can come back to later and re-edit?

The last thing I do before saving work is to add a watermark to my photographs. I sometimes come back to the shot thinking I can still improve on the image but any changes I make also affect the watermark as well.

I just wondered if somehow I could save the work so that I can make changes at a later date that will not affect the watermark.

If i understood correctly. Of course it is mate. If you want to save it, the project file is saved as a .psd file and you can open it and edit it whenever you want.

Hi Scary,

Thanks for the reply but I'm a little lost. I shoot in RAW then convert to JPEG.

I'm not sure where the project file comes in or where it is stored. Any help would be most welcome.

Cheers
Barry

If you're making changes in the raw file, and then converting to jpeg, you'll still have the original raw files.

When you work on a jpeg, tiff, etc. image in PS, do not flatten it, and save it as a psd file. That will retain all the layers, masks, etc. If you want you can also save a copy as a jpeg.

Thanks for all the help, I understand now.

One problem though, when I look at thumbnails of my shots, all I see on the .PSD files is the blue PS Logo. Where the JPEGS and RAW show a copy of the photo.

Is this right?
