Hey im somewhat new to photoshop so bear with me.I have a question. I made a piece in photoshop at 1544px x 1132px at 200 res. I did it this way so i could use it as a computer monitor background and i wouldnt have to blow it up and lose resolution. Im wondering how i would go about shrinking it to a pixel demension lower than 200k so that i can post it on these forums and get some feedback. Whenever i alter the image size or resolution so thats its under 200k, it gets really really small. I need help. Thanks.

Altering the image size is not the only way to make the imaghe smaller for posting, although it does help. however, I would say 1024x768 is probably more than big enough for posting. You probably want to post around 800x600.

The 200 resolution wil not change file size; it only efects print size. You don't need to fool with it.

When you go to save a jpg, adjust the quality setting. You don't need it to be up to 12 to post here. 7 or 8 will probably cut it. Fool arounf with both quality and size until you find a setting that looks okay.

You can reduce the actual size with image/size and you can reduce the file size with the save for web option, hit the 4 up tab and look at the 4 options and their files sizes, the lower the file size the lower the quality, but it's not quite so important for displaying on the web. (you can resize in there too) Wayne

Really, your computer monitor only displays at 72 ppi, so your image doesn't really need to be 200 ppi, 72 ppi should work just fine. Changing the ppi to 72 will also greatly reduce your file size.

You may even want to try the save for web feature too after you have sized it down and are ready for saving. It reduces file size for posting on here, but it keeps the same dimensions if you want it. The save for web feature is real handy, and not too many people use it or know how to use it effecitivly.

The save for web saves it into a file on your hard drive that you choose and it does not save it directly to the web like most people may think.
