a long time ago, a knowledgeable man said:

"To re-create the Photoshop preferences file:

1. Quit Photoshop.

2. Rename the Adobe Photoshop CS2 Prefs.psp file (for example, to Adobe Photoshop CS2 Prefs.old) in the Documents and Settings\ [username] \Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\9.0\Adobe Photoshop CS2 Settings folder.

3. Start Photoshop. Photoshop creates a new preferences file."

That's all very well and fine, but I'm pretty sure I remember something about a keyboard command that could be used during PS startup to reset preferences. I've looked through 3 or four pages of search results to find it, and no dice. if anyone else can remember, that's be great.

I have to reset my preferences about every week or two so a faster method would be nice.

thanx helcyon

I have this annoying glitch with the close buttons on images. No matter which image's close button I click on, it'll only close the one that has focus. So if I've opened a bunch of images, composited a bunch of layers into an image, and then I want to close the images I no longer need, I have to click on their title bar before clicking close, or else it'll close the wrong image.

reseting prefs helps, but it comes back again sooner or later.
