Hey guys...I'm new to the forums. I have a fair amount of experience with PS (currently running CS2) but I am no expert. I make signs for a living and recently purchased a large fromat printer. As everyone knows, resolution is very important when generating large output files. For example, it is not uncommon to create a new file 48"x 72" at 150dpi. As you know this could easily translate into a 250meg file. I am looking to get a new pc that will run these files with relative ease. The problem is that I like to run my files a bit denser than 150dpi and prefer, for high profile work, to create them at 250 to 300 dpi final output size. I am looking for a machine that, when you go to use the fire filter in EyeCandy4000 it doesn't take 5mins. Anyone know about hardware...like...which processor, video card, FSB, memory(I know...the more the better), hard drive(s) etc. _________________ I am new in the large format graphics industry. I have a Seiko ColorPainter 64S and want to get the best images out of photoshop to maximize this VERY expensive machine.

I would suggest holding off on MACs until the intel swap as been in place for a good year.
I would suggest building your own PC
CPU: Intel Pentium D, Adobe apps support Multi Processors, so a 3GHz multi Core should fly. And you could OC that ting to like 3.6GHz if you really wanted.
Ram: I'd say 2GBs for a professional. I used 1GB in casual use the other day. Its not uncommon to get 2GB of Memory anymore; and make sure you go DDR2 at like 667 or higher, latency doesn't matter to much.
Motherboard: I always recormend DFI, but once you get it setup it doesn't really matter.
HDD: if you on a budget i would say get a single 250GB OEM for $100. But if you have coin I would get a fast 10K Raptor Drive 36GB of off ebay for the System Drive (Install Windows and PS and all other programs) and then I would get two 250GB and raid them in a 1 array so if one fails the other drive still works.
Case: Get a nice case, spend atleast $70, its worth it. CoolerMaster, Li-An Li are good.
For Intel I suggest replacing the stock cooling, cause it sucks, A nice Zalman can make your system run very well.
Go to Directron and buy quite fans and a fan controller if nosie bothers you
If you like to listen to music while you work, I'd suggest getting an XFI sound card, but otherwise onboard works great.
Buy a retail DVD burner cause it will come with the burning software.
I'd suggest going to www.ocforums.com and making a post in the Intel CPU section and give them a budget, tell them your making a photoshop build, tell them no macs, and tell them that you know very little and want to build your own PC. They will help you find the parts you need. and ask for links to the products they suggest.
