i have a friend who sent me the xmp file, however she didnt send the camera raw file, i already have a camera raw file with the same name, how can i apply the xmp file to the camera raw file?

Your friend doesn't need to send the original RAW back you if you already have it; that's one of the great things about XMP files.
Place the XMP file in the same directory as your RAW file of the same name and when you open it in Photoshop the settings and adjustments your friend applied to the image will be automatically added to the file in the camera raw dialog.
