Just switched from paintshop pro. Had enough of the dumbing down and mass releases with fluff and bugs to say goodbye to it finally.

Worked with an earlier version of Photoshop which had , well much more than I needed before.

But there are some basic things that, if because of how I work and the speed I am used to with the 'flow' of things, I will not remain on PS and go back to psp if this is not possible. Seems like software is going backwards but I disgress :)

Issue: I want to be able to print screen, and then jump into PS and just click anywhere on the gray area and paste the scrnshot as a new image or hovering selection onto a current image without having to open a new window to the size of the image.

Also - The zoom tool is VERY annoying in PS. I'm used to being able to just use the mouse wheel to zoom in, fix something , then quickly zoom out to check the validity of the fix...or zoom back in and repair the issue further etc etc. Is this not possibly also?

I REALLY need AT LEAST these two functions to work like this. Everything else I will muttle through unless there is 30 steps to do what I could do in 5 in psp which from what I hear I doubt.

Please help.

I am running CS2 9.02

Thank you VERY much for any help you can provide!

Print screen is a pain in PS, I use the free version of screen hunter, it's so much easier and versitile to use, it will just save the screen (or selected area) as a jpeg to start with, none of the messing about with having to open it in something first.
As for the zoom, CS3 (v9.0) should zoom with a scroll wheel mouse, you have to hold down ALT though. Wayne

Seriously? All this talk about how much PS is superior to psp and it can't do these simple things?
I guess I'm more remedial in my needs - but I would think that would be a staple one would use in order to work quickly and effectively...especially after all these years.

Amazing. I would rock in a softward company. :) Too many non-users running them.

At any rate, thanks for the tips on the scrn saver, that's not a bad idea - still an extra couple steps but I'm going to give ps a good try because it seems to have SO many plugins and effects built for it.

I guess it's the vhs vs beta battle (kids have no idea what I speak of here hehe)

I started on PSP, when I switched to PS I almost put my foot thru my PC. I hated it!. PS was anti- intuitive compared to PSP.. but after going back and forth between programs for a couple of months, PS surfaced and I never looked back.
The truth is every nickel an dime program does "something" easier or better then PS... but PS does everything I need and the way I need it.
I learn something new everyday.
Can PSP do most of what you need? If the answer is yes, why bother with PS..by the way whats a vhs you mean DVD..lol.

I Think the differences come from the different target groups, Paint shop is aimed and priced at the amatuer market rather than the professional, like the elements versions of photoshop. Thats why PSP has things like red eye tool and frames etc. Photoshop is aimed (and priced) for the pros, they don't need built in frames etc, and pro photographers can usually avoid red eye so they don't need to remove it, although under pressure it's now in the latest versions.
Thats not knocking PSP, it's very caperble software, and for the price, excelent! and yes it can do pretty much everything PS can, and thats good for us all, it's competition that keeps them both improving and updating.

Yea like I said, I think there are many 'for dummies' tools in PS that allow someone novice at PS to do some really nice things. It also allows someone to create whatever they want from scratch that would boggle the mind. I've seen some of the works out there.

I'm doing web graphics work. Nothing else. Occasionally I need to do magazine, brochure etc etc layouts and graphics. I'm HORRIBLE at this, it takes me SO long to get the finished product, and at times I get very disappointed because there is still just a slight hint of amateur behind some of my rushed work. When I get time, however I can do some pretty nice things. There are some web sites ou there that I look to for inspiration or, just flat out copy their ideas or methods and incorporate my thoughts together for a finished copy.
That's what makes the whole 'art' thing flourish. One person takes a bit off of someone elses and improves on it or, at least learns hands on how they created that through some methods of reverse engineering..

PSP is still pretty good, they are gearing it toward the average joe out there, and it's going to FLOP. People like me need an alternative and I've only tried Fireworks, PSP and PS. I can say PSP is still for me for now, just because of the functions.
PSP doesn't have many effects or borders etc that are really useable. I guess it's basically two products in one. You can shut the amateur mode off and get some actual work done pretty quickly.

The problem is , I have absolutely NO artistic ability OTHER than to look at something and say if it looks good or not. AKA Point Z. What happens from Point A - Y is well, usually cursing - drinking ALOT of coffee, many breaks, many deletes, many more breaks and more coffee drinking, followed by me sandboxing the project for a few days - then suddenly for no reasons, something hits me and I start slapping ideas roughly together to come up with a masterpiece (for me) and then I work on it for about 10 hours to creat the PERFECT images that I want.

At any rate, that Free version of Screenhunter is REALLY cool. I like how it just saves it quickly to the desktop (or folder of my choice) and then I can pop it in and work with it.
When I am done with this one website, I am going to start playing with PS, however I am a freelance network eng so I really don't run into this very much, usually just from referals a few times a year.

Anyway, thanks for the replies guys! WONDERFUL group of folks here! :)

Thank you for the kind words.
I have PSP8 and fireworks MX but hardly ever use either, I'm just so used to PS that when I try using them I'm all over the place looking for the tools etc, it's what your used to I suppose.
