Hi,
Is there a method from photoshop that will let me put the most ink down on transparency film.
I am printing film positives for screen printing, and unfortunately i dont own a post script printer (have a canon pixma mp540, so i cant use a rip).
Someone on another forum was saying something about setting the CMYK seetings to 100C 100M 100Y 100K to produce darker blacks on the film. They said this was a photoshop/corel setting and could be done on any inkjet printer. They neglected to explain how to do this though, as in what settings in photoshop, file type, etc.
Does anyone have a clue what they may have meant, or any other tips please would be appreciated.
With CMYK print there is a dedicated black channel, as well as 3 others, Cyan Magenta and Yellow.
If you combine Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow it creates black. So (100C + 100M + 100Y) creates black + (100K) the black channel = double black.
That's why its darker then just using the black channel by itself.
Your document has to be in CMYK color mode. (Image > Mode > CMYK)
Then make sure the black in your document is 100C 100M 100Y 100K and not 0C 0M 0Y 100K.
I have my image set to CMYK. Not sure where i set the 100C 100Y 100M 100k option.
If i go "Image > Adjustments > Color Balance" there are slide bars where i can set CMY to 100+ (doesnt seem to be a bar for K). So i slide them up to 100, but if i exit that menu option, then immediately go back in, the slide bars are back in their original setting (no longer shows 100C 100Y 100M). So i assume i am doing the wrong thing.
As i write this, i notice there is a different option "Image > Adjustments > Channel Mixer", this has slide bars for CMYK. I wonder if this is where i should have been going instead? This has the option to select the out put channel, either C, M, Y or K. If i select Cyan for instance, there are still 4 slide bars underneath it for CMYK. Should i be going through each of the 4 output channels, and cranking the CMYK up on each to 100%? Hopefully that paragraph makes sense...
Incidentally, these slide bars go up to 200%. Whats gonna happen if i crank em up all the way... LOL
Theres also another option, "Image > Adjustments > Selective Colour". Whether i choose this, or the previous option (Channel Mixer), if i slide all the bars up, they dont appear to save when i exit that particular screen and go back in. They do have the option to save these settings as presets, which i have done, however i dont know how i specify these settings to take effect when printing?
Anyway some of the method you require depends on what color your blacks are currently.
If they are 100K then the following should work.
Use the channels tab, Ctrl+Click (selection method) the layer thumbnail of the black channel.
Ctrl+Shift+I to inverse it.
Now select the other layers (C,M,Y) and Shift+F5 and fill with black.
When you have all layers filled the same as each other you should have your 100CMYK.
