Like many other, I love black and white images, but struggle with how to get rich, black tones that still have good detailing while, on the same time, achieve the same for the highlights. I am currently using NIK's Silver Efeks Pro 2 but find it pretty crude. I would think the ideal way would be to avoid pre-set functions like Silver Efek Pro and do it all step-by-step in CS6. Thoughts?

Silver Effects pro is pretty much the best for the job.
You're "NOT" limited to the pre-sets either.

I don't know of a better way in CS6, maybe somebody else does.

I'd suggest getting away from the presets and really learning the power in SE Pro.
