need 16-bit pixel value info display

In the photoshop PROPERTIES/INFO section there an 8-bit pixel value display showing a 256 level level for the pixel in question. When operating in 16 or 32 but mode, the info display still shows "8-bit" level, in stead of the actual 65568 (for 16 bit) levels. How can the pixel info be set to 16 bit, when operating in 16 bit (or 32) ?
