I've suddenly got this problem when editing in CS6, the mouse pointer needs to be several lines ABOVE the relevant adjustment slider to work! Sometimes. Everything is up to date. The mouse works perfectly in other applications including Lightroom.

Try cycling through the screen modes by pressing F and clicking around the screen a bit.
If this doesn't work then I could be a graphics issue with your video card or open GL. |

Hmm, I suspect my graphics card and OpenGL too so will experiment. But it is only CS6 that is affected. |

I was going to chime in with OpenGL but in the context of have you got the box checked in your preferences? _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

Yes and I've tried all three OGL options (ie basic advanced etc) and none at all. I eventually managed to reinstall CS6 (a story and a half!!) and no change it still plays.
Oddly the mouse locates over push buttons etc perfectly, it is only the adjustment slider tabs it misses. The curse becomes an I bar when hovering over the tab and as I say works if the cursor is a few centimetres above!
I've changed my mouse driver from MS to Logitech, reinstalled my latest graphic card drivers and catalyst. I've disabled catalyst too.
Nothing in my system has changed by the way. The problem appeared out of the blue.
Thinks. Could it be WindowBlinds for Win8 I installed????? Hmmm. |

Great that you got your own problem solved and thanks for sharing your solution.
It's amazing how delicate Photoshop seems to be when it comes to interference from outside sources. |
