OK so I got some nice photos of my daughters and their friends at their dance recital last weekend....I shot raw, mainly with d800, 70-200mm 2.8 and 85mm 1.8g.

I edited all of the photos in LR 4, and although I like the result, I do not like the result as much as my friend who also shot with a 70-200mm 2.8, albeit the nikon vr but a d5000 body. His post poroduction edits just look imho better.

Welcome to the forum.

Too small to tell really, but they look hella noisy, probably due to lighting - but what more could be done to them do you think?

not exacly sue what i am looking for, but i do know that my friends, who shot with a d7000 came out better. we both used lr 4. btw as far as noise...yes lighting was horrible, no flash obviously and i jacked up the iso....i have a d800 though, isnt it supposed to be amazing in low light? did i do something wrong?

Do you know what ISO your friend shot with?
Ask for copies of his/her images then inspect their EXIF tags.

Its very hard to say whats going on without the original RAW files from both you and your friend and then the corresponding post production images.
