My 17" mac book died and I have everything on time machine and want to transfer it to a new mac book. I have been told by Apple that because my 17" had the Intel Core 2 Duo processor, my CS2 version of photoshop will operate on Mountain Lion. I have been told by Adobe that it is "not compatible with Mountain Lion" and that I need to pay $700 for the CS6 Suite or a monthly subscription fee of $49.99/month. I will not be able justify a $700 purchase or monthly subscription fees to my employer because we require the use of photoshop infrequently. I do not upgrade regular'y (I have quite happily been using CS2 until now.)
If Adobe is right (and Apple wrong) that CS2 will not operate on Mountain Lion even though it ran on the Intel Core 2 Duo processor of my 17" mac book, what alternative do I have?

Just try it. I wouldn't trust Adobe. They just want to sell products and really don't care about their customers. Especially if you just talked to a low tier rep.
Another option could be to find out what the earliest version of Photoshop that can run on mt lion is. Could be CS3 or CS4 and you could buy them online from somewhere other than Adobe for much cheaper than CS6.
You should qualify for the upgrade pricing on the creative cloud plans. Which is $20 a month for the 1st year I think. Maybe $30.
The fact that Adobe just immediately quoted you the most expensive pricing plan and options is typical.
Let us know what happens. Even if CS2 runs fine. I like to know how Adobe chooses to operate their business. |
