Hi - New here, first post, be gentle!

I use a lot of photos in 3D rendering apps and process these in PS for tiling or to create bill board style entourage. One issue with entourage is fringing, where a distinct outline surrounds the image. It is possible to deal with this by using a single colour background in some cases, but there are plenty of situations where this still does not work.

I have seen a technique used that creates a background that is in effect a blurred version of the edge pixels in the image. I have attached an example. In this case a tree, where there is a fringe several pixels wide where the colours in the fringe relate to the nearest edge of the image. This eliminates the outline when use din a 3D rendering.

I cannot work out how to achieve this effect. Can anyone give me some guidance please?
