Hi there -

Ok I have a black & white logo of a cat, the background is the white part... the logo is a solid black.

Basically this is what I want to do.

I want to make the solid black into a color into orange... then I'd like to outline the eyes, nose, mouth & the outside edge in black.

So How do you make a solid black image have just a semi-thin outline around the eyes, nose, mouth & the outside ... in the color it is now & then fill that in with a bright color with another layer.

So basically its a orange cat, with a outline around the outside - eyes, nose & mouth in black.

I am using CS6.

Thanks!

Create a orange solid color fill layer above your cat and set its blend mode to screen.

You need to cut out either all of the white or the black part of the logo and then use stoke layer fx to get your outlines.

Always hard to give exact advice without an example of the logo as techniques change depending on image size, quality and what the edges are like.

When it comes to logos, I would always go for vectors over pixels (just to remain quality when enlarging - never know if you might need to in the future).

Here's what I'd do for your cat logo:
- If the photo is on the background layer, unlock the background layer by double clicking it and click OK.
- Make a group under the photo layer and set the photo layer's opacity to about 50% so you can see what's going on in that group.
- Grab your pen tool and set it to shape, adjust the fill and stroke colours to what you like.
- This part requires some inside
- You'll have to start with a shape that covers the whole cat at least the part you want your logo to be
- Create new shapes on new layers for parts like the eyes, nasal/mouth area etc

If you created all the shapes within the group the easiest part is to name the group vector logo and save the PSD somewhere safe. When you need to place your logo any where just open up that PSD and with the group selected just use the move tool to move it from your logo's PSD into a project or a specific resolution document.
