With the rounded rectangle tool make a shape on top of the picture. Hold Ctrl+click the rectangle layer. Now click on the picture layer and hit the mask button at the bottom of the layers pallette. Then delete the shape layer, or hide it for future reference.

My advice to you to making rounded corners is to LEARN how to use the pen tool and all it's features within Photoshop 6, 7or 8. The pen tool VERY WELL WILL help you out very highly in making rounded corners... and with somethings you don't even know about yet.

I have a more obscure way, just for all you Photoshop freaks out there....

Create a new channel.

Create a rectangle selection and fill with white.

Deselect.

Gaussian Blur (adjust and experiment in conjunction with the next step)

Ctrl+L, bring the sliders into the middle until the rectangle edges look crisp and sharp.

there you go a rectangle with rounded corners - the method is long winded but can have added advantages.

The rounded rectangle is a feature of the shape tools. U or Shift+U.

I would just use the rounded rectangle tool. It will be much easier for you and give you more control.
