I have a cad design that I got (in eps form) that has almost 120 different shapes. The eps is editable in illustrator and can adjust lines in it. I need to place image files within these shapes. I have about 13 different files i need to place at different rotations for grain direction. Whats the best way to go about this?
I was planning on drawing the shape in illustrator bringing it to photoshop and creating a path then placeing the image into the path. many of the pieces repeat. Is this the best way? |

Might be helpful, might not be??
if you are going to be repeating steps at least in photoshop you can setup an action to speed up the process.

It will be alot of custom work not really anything that can have actions. But I did figure out a good way that works really slick build each piece in illustrator by using the mask command for my outline over my photo of wood grain, then repeating and rotating to fullfill each element. Then I just copy them to photoshop and place like colors on their own layer so they can be swapped out at a later time if need be.
It would be nice if I could figure out a way to make it so I could swap photos if I dont like a color of wood on the fly. Without affecting how the grain is placed on each piece. |
