Here is a real Mickey Mouse way to do it if you don't have a thin version of the font you are using.

Make your type as usual. I would duplicate the type layer and hide it in case you need to go back.

Rasterize the type on the visible type layer. Use your Magic Wand to select the backgound. Invert your selection so the type is selected. Then go to Select/Modify/Contract. Add a value in pixels. Invert the selection again and then hit delete. This will shave the outer edges of the type.

A variation of this would be to create a Layer Mask on the rasterized type layer and fill the inverted selection with black. This way no changes are permanent until you make them so.

What else you could do is to type the font then do this:

Layer/ type/ create work path

turn off the text layer
you will then see the path layer in grey
make a new layer
go into the path section and start thinning with the pen tool.
when your done thinning, fill the path with any color you want by selecting the fill path button at the lower right corner on the path section (it looks like a half black and white eye. it is located right beside the one with the dots (Marching ants) to the right of it.)

IT REALLY HELPS TO KNOW HOW TO USE THE PEN TOOL FEATURE(S) WITHIN PHOTOSHOP'S 6.0, 7.0 OR CS (8.0) TO DO THIS TRICK.

Good luck!
