Last year I took a series of archaeological site photos. Each shot was recorded on a sheet, together with the image number (assigned by the Olympus camera). Later each day the images were transferred to a PC (with some minimal processing in PhotoShop) and written records to an Excel spreadsheet.
Today I started preparing the material for archiving and have been astonished and puzzled to find that the image numbers no longer register with the records. Luckily each shot included a board giving date and (archaeological) image number. So I can re-do the data sheet by hand, giving each jpeg and raw file its current (new) number.
It almost looks as if some sort of virus has been changing the numbers - or have I missed something in the way PhotoShop handles files?
This is going to be an extremely tedious job to do by hand and I don't want to find that the file numbers have changed again on transferring to DVD for archiving. Is there a known virus that attacks photo files?
I'd be grateful if anyone could shed some light on this.
