After working normally for months, suddenly after I 'load files into stacks' the option of making frames from layers is no longer available. It is just greyed out like this, so that I can't make animated gifs anymore.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling photoshop and restarting my computer, but can't get it to work again. Does anyone have any ideas how it can be fixed?

Not sure whats causing it, probably something simple. Try deleting the preferences file. When you uninstall/reinstall I believe they are kept for your 'convenience'.

Hold down Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys (Mac: Command, Option, Shift) while starting up Photoshop. (You have to be fast if you have a quick computer)
A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to delete the preferences/settings file.
