Hello,

I am pretty new to using PS, I can really only do minor things. But last night, I tried out the elliptical marquee tool for the first time, and it worked on the picture. But then my entire computer screen went red, and I couldn't get it to go away. I have a laptop, and I had to unplug it from the wall, and remove the battery to get my pc to restart.

I have been using my pc without problem after the glitch, and it seems fine. I haven't used ps again though, so that is why I think it caused the red screen.

So I'm looking for some help... has this happened before to anyone? Have you heard of this problem maybe? Like I said, I'm no expert with PS (nor with computers in general tbh), but if you need any more info, I'll do my best to provide it!

Thanks in advance!

Hey, Sometimes when using the marquee tool in Photoshop you can make a layer mask visible in the channels tab which make everything a transparent red.

I'm guessing that not the problem though, sounds like if the whole screen went red and you had to force restart then it would be a graphics issue.

Its very hard to narrow down the problems cause without actually seeing it with my own eyes.
It may be caused by Windows graphics hardware accelerator.

What graphics does your computer use and what windows are you running?

My laptop is a Toshiba Qosmio with a NVIDIA GEForce GTS 360M graphics card. And I have Windows 7.

Does it keep happening?

I would turn off Windows graphics hardware acceleration if you have the option too and see if that helps.

Also check windows event viewer and see what error if any corresponds with the times when it has crashed/frozen.
