|
|
I just recently installed CS6. Fortunately, I didn't uninstall CS3. I have several actions that I want to carry over to CS6. When I record actions, I always preface the name with my initials for quick/easy identification. It has been a long time since I recorded an action & I've forgotten several details. Where are these actions stored? I can't find them & I certainly don't want to re-think/re-solve my "problems" & re-record the actions. I seem to remember reading that they can be stored anywhere as long as I tell Photoshop where they are. I've searched my entire c-drive for .atn files & only found them in CS3 & CS6 Presets\Actions folders. None were MY actions.
Currently, I exit CS6 & open CS3 when/if I need one of these actions . . . obviously, that's not workable for the long haul.
I also have some 3rd-party actions that I used long ago (probably CS1, maybe even before that), but didn't add to CS3. I still have the downloaded .atn files. I'd like to use them in CS6.
1. How to I locate MY CS3 (and 3rd-party) actions?
2. How/where do I add them to CS6?
3. Is it better to keep these actions separated from those originally supplied by Adobe? |

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6\Presets\Actions the path will be the same for CS3 and 6.
You can separate the action files but I wouldn't bother unless it freaks you out. Just drag and drop or copy and paste the files to the new action folder. In truth you could keep them anywhere and just load them up in PS as you need them. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

Thanks, Hermit.
The CS3 Actions pallet shows:
...Default Actions
......Vignette (selection)
......Frame Channel - 50 pixel
......Wood Frame - 50 pixel
......Cast Shadow (type)
......Water Reflection (type)
......Custom RGB to Grayscale
......Molten Lead
......Make Clip Path (selection)
......Sepia Toning (layer)
......Quadrant Colors
......Save As Photoshop PDF
......Gradient Map
......4x6x300Hor (this is 1 of MY recorded actions)
......JAR X&Flatten (this is 1 of MY recorded actions)
......JAR Multiply Layer & Flatten (this is 1 of MY recorded actions)
......JAR Read FileInfo (this is 1 of MY recorded actions)
......JAR HighPass Sharpen (this is 1 of MY recorded actions)
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Actions\ shows:
...Commands.atn
...Frames.atn
...Image Effects.atn
...Production.atn
...Text Effects.atn
...Textures.atn
...Video Actions.atn
I can't recognize any sort of relationship between these 2 lists. I most want to copy my "JAR HighPass Sharpen" action from CS3 to CS6, but I can't find it. I've searched my entire c-drive. How do I find it? |

I think it's a case of you think you have them saved but at the moment they are just in Photoshop and not saved as an action.
Don't forget to save them in sets!
This tutorial should get you started. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

You were absolutely right. I had recorded them, but had not saved them as an action (.atn).
Thanks again. |

Here I am back again. Everything works fine, but CS6 shows an incorrect action set name. It's not a big problem, but seems strange.
. . . here what I did:
1. saved the existing Default Actions set (which contained the original default & my recorded actions) as "JAR & Default Actions.atn" (just as a backup)
2. deleted unwanted from Default Actions
3. loaded "JAR & Default Actions.atn"
4. deleted unwanted (non JAR) actions
5. saved as "JAR Actions.atn"
6. loaded "JAR Actions.atn"
7. deleted "JAR & Default Actions" set
In CS3 I see "Default Actions" set & "JAR Actions" set in the action pallet.
I copied "JAR Actions.atn" into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS6 (64 Bit)\Presets\Actions\
After loading "JAR Actions.atn" into CS6, I see "Default Actions" set & "JAR & Default Actions" set in the action pallet. The actions work correctly, but why doesn't it show the correct set name ("JAR Actions")? |
