Hi all, i am colorizing a photo and am having problems with selecting the double string of pearls around the persons neck, I have tried using the pen tool but seem to lose a lot of detail in the process. Is there an easy (ish) way of doing this?
Any help/advice would be appreciated

Why select them at all? If it's too difficult, employ another method. What about a layer set to hue or colour, or just a channel operation? Forget selections I say!

Hi
I would use Quick Mask to paint around the pearls and then make them a selection, copy and paste to a new layer and then you can colour them or whatever else you need to do!

Tried the quick mask method but it's proving to be difficult getting the detail of the pearls, in order to mask them correctly i need to zoom in which makes the pic very pixelated and hard to mask, might be easier to locate a string of similar pearls on the net and copy/paste into my project then work on that. Many thanks for your help, it's been a long time since i was here and it looks like the usual faces are still here

Hi Iain
If you use a hard edged brush easier if you use a graphic tablet you can literally dot each pearl just varying the dot size, but if your losing definition through pixelation then does each pearl need to be separate I don't think it would be noticeable?

i agree with ^^^^^^ you can just mask them as one strand instead of trying to individualize them there are so small you wont be able to tell with the shadows in between each one... worth a try if ya ask me.... not that anyone did haha <<my 2cents
