Hello there,
I make full spherical HDR panorama's. with my old cam (16MP) it was no problem layering up to 5 32 bit panorama's 14kpx x 7kpx, processing and saving them.
With my new 36MP cam (20kpx x 10 kpx panorama's) it starts to drastically slow down and lag when using multiple layers . When saving this either as PSB or HDR it first generates a full resolution composite for 15 minutes with virtually no disk and processor activity, than saves in approx. 15 secs.
The "maximize PSD and PSB file compatibility" setting is set to "never" (Edit -> Preferences -> File handling). this should mean that the full-res comp. is not necessary, but it still processes it, or am i wrong here?
When switching from the brush tool to the zoom tool, and then click to zoom (magnifying glass is visible), it brushes. More lag issues like this happen all the time. frustrating...
All this is drastically slowing down my workflow to an agonizing slow speed, and i would love to know why...
System Details:
Mobo = Asus Sabertooth x58
Processor = Intel Core i7 960 3.2 GHz
RAM = 16 GB 1366 MHz
HDD (C:/) = Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM (SATAII)
SSD (E:/) = OCZ Agility 3 240 GB 525/500 MBps read/write (SATAIII)
Typical single .HDR panorama 16 MP cam = 350 MB
Typical single .HDR panorama 36 MP cam = 800 MB
Typical multilayer .PSD panorama 16 MP cam = 1,5 GB
Tyipcal multilayer .PSB panorama 36 MP cam = 3 GB
Photoshop CS5.1, Windows 7 Pro 64 bit.
Some facts about the process:
All images are opened and saved to the E:/SSD disk (525/500 MB/s read/write). PS runs on the magnetic C:/ drive. When saving the file, either as PSB or HDR and it starts generating the full-res comp: Processor is as good as idle, disk queues for both C:/ and E:/ are max 1. Max 1000 Kb/s read/write actions from the photoshop process. nothing spectacular going on here. Memory is 11/16 GB used. C:/ disk is 750/1000 GB used, the SSD 85/240 GB used. plenty for the temporary files.
Because the disk acces is minimal, this does not seem the problem. Processor is barely used so i guess this is a RAM speed issue?
Any help or tips would be mostly appreciated! _________________ Life sucks, so enjoy it! |
