I'm a pretty experienced Aperture user but have only just started with PS. I have searched online various tutorials but haven't been able to either make sense or find exactly what need. I tried working with adjustment layers and levels but finding it hard.
I would like to darken the highlights and wondering whether darkening the background would work. I tried CMd+OPT+2 to but it selects too many parts of the photo so I can't isolate the highlights or BG only. The posted pic is only a jpg but I'm working from RAW and editing it in Apertuer and PS.
Hoping for some feedback and help.

Hi mazstar, welcome to the forums.
Have you tried Shadows/Highlights? It's under the Image/Adjustments menu. |

Yeh - I tried recovering highlights in Aperture and PS but seems like they're blown completely. |

Indeed they are. What I would do in a case like this is replace (part of) the background. |
