|
|
Hi, I'm new on this forum.
I have gotten myself a copy of Photoshop CS4 Portable, and when I wanted to start learning things from a tutorial, I quickly realized that the Layers windows is apparently blocked. All options are unavailable in the menu, and my cursor turns into a traffic sign when I try to click buttons for adding new layer and such.
Anybody knows what's wrong? |

Welcome to the forum.
I guess you are using a GIF or something. Try Image>Mode>RGB in Photoshop, I am thinking it will be Indexed or Greyscale at the moment. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

Thank you for the answer.
The thing is, I don't use a GIF. I just do File->New, use these settings:
...And that's about it. Layers window unavailable. Don't know what to do. |

hi,
i am thinking that you have a memory issue, the numbers extremely very big.... i don't believe that 13.4 meg file size that shown .. 7000x5000 inch file....
for starter why don't you strt off with numbers like
640 and 540 for heigth and width and set it for pixels instead of inches... it will probably work and you can increase the numbers untill you figure what your limits are....
myself when i used your numbers in your screen capture i ran into a lot of issues trying to make it work... i tried 5000x5000 inches.. and the files size on that was about 1 gig!!!!!!! most system will choke badly on that..
bottom line for now set your file for pixels and work from there.. |

Those numbers must be some sort of Photoshop's default thing, because I was going for 7x5 inches. Either way, changing the numbers does not help.
I also just noticed that the regular Save option is not available; only Save As is available, and there are no options for saving as PNGs, JPGs and similar formats; the only options are PSD, PSB, EXR, PBM, HDR and TIF. |

hi,
been looking again at this cs4 portable... where did you get it???? from adobe? or some other place..
i noticed that most cs4 portable that avail for free download are hacked copies.... in addition a lot of stuff is ripped out of the cs4 portable and could be that you have a hacked version that too much was ripped out and mistakes made and that why you got problems...
just another thought.... you may need to look at ps preferences... and look at performance and location of the scratch disk
and another thought... you may want to look at gimp portable it free, it very good, has majority of things that ps does, and it not hacked... and most of the ps tutorials will work with gimp although there maybe terminology issue like name of tools different.. |
