Been thinking about getting a tablet for a while now but have no idea what is good. My brother go one for Xmas it was quite cheap and said ut wad pretty much unusable very laggy etc
Basically want to know what are best tabs for different price ranges And are they that much better than a mouse

hi,
althought i am always reserved about "what the best" because so many times what the best is not nesseccery the best for you... smiling...
how ever short answer is probably the wacom is considered one of the best... I know on one of the boards I visit majority of people uses wacomes... the wacom bamboo tablet version line is about the cheapest.
but here some official reviews... and price range of various drawing tablets.

Ithink with a couple of bamboo models below 100 , the intuiousline your looking at above 200 ..

although you may be able to find cheapers prices at other places for wacom tablets...
wish i knew what he (your brother) specificall didn'tlike...and what did he get and because maybe it was lack of features,,, this laggy-- is he saying it to slow... if so maybe his computer not up specs for the one he got.. or he needs to tweek his system to get more speed out of it...
now i would suggest playing around with his tablet to get a feel and overlook any drawback to the one he has. also get a feel about what features your looking for and size of the drawing board, etc...
is it better than a mouse... if you do a lot of work with photoshop... i think it would be alot better... especiallydepending on what kind of work... there many times i wish i had a tablet (I am planing on getting one myself although a cheaper model) ... especialying draw or brushing... itwould make things easier than working with a mouse sometimes.. and less tiring..
I don't know if anyone on here use a tablet on a regular bases if they do hope they reply...
keep in mind although wacom is the most popular and very good there are others maybe cheaper but just as good and/or fits your needs better...

Wow thanks for the reply jerry I think for starters ill maybe take ny brothers off his hands and have a play. He said it just lagged behind on screen to what he done on the actual pad. I don't know how much he fiddled with settings but I will def look into it before I look at buying anything |

hi,
before i forget... on the lag... could be several reasons, such as the overall pc system slow or not enough ram... or he some feature on the pen activated that causes... oooooorrrr his various pen drivers are not up to dae ...
be that said... although i am loking a wacom closely... however.... there a lot of other good ones out there that cheaper..... I'll probably go with good basic tablet ... before getting a more expensive one...
if you like... maybe take aride over at retouchpro.com (mostly pro's and highly talented ps users..) .... now most of them like wacom but there a few that uses others and are quite satsified..
if you go theree phrase your question carefully, don't be vaque, so that you get reall good specific answers... good luck on your choice.... |

If you want a starter or an entry point tablet, that won't be a disappointment do yourself a favour and get yourself a Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch, available widely and at a not too scary a price. I would recommend the smaller ones, unless you are a digital artist and need the arm sweep room.
It's worth noting that the new Bamboo has come out and some of the slightly older models have become a steal. I bought myself a new one after my Intuos 4 took a cup of tea bath and I only use it in the main for D&B but it doesn't feel a lot different to my Intuos.

I got a wacom bamboo just the pen not touch.
Have to say its absolutely brilliant cant really thought it for a cheap tablet. I would def consider get something more pro in the future i cant believe how much its helped with my photoshopping. |

I have a mainly hate/love relationship with mine, but I can't fault the device, just the shaky handed operator!

Do yourself a favour (and your pen nibs) download this program, it makes the pressure sensitivity respond to less pressure, just change the curve to the bottom right for maximum response.
Just be aware that you may have to work at reduced opacity or a lighter touch, but it can be altered to suit.
