I am working with the Creative Suite 5.5 Web Premium edition:

My goal is to take a large list of jpg's (in a particular folder) and export those files to folders based on their 'shot date' (i.e. yyyymmdd).

This functionality exists from the Bridge when selecting 'Get Photos from Camera...'. It gives me the option to export to sub folders based on 'shot date' i.e. yyyymmdd. However, I don't see where I can perform this export on existing files.

Any thoughts?

hi,
mm... why can't you use the edit>find in your bridge and then setup your search criteria... once all the files been tag then save all those to a folder you want ...

another possiblity now and i know very little in this area... you maybe able to create and run a java script to accomplish what you need....

I have a long time system of organizing photos by folder with the shot date yyyymmdd as the prefix then a description of the folder content (i.e. 20100130_kids playing in park).

This helps searching from 'windows explorer' and other software outside of Photoshop.

I am looking for a bulk way of moving groups of photos into the starting folder names (i.e. 20100130).

Thanks...

hi,
just don't know enough.....i would think that you could run a batch script to look at the date and then create a folder and move those files that meets the criteria... i'll keep on looking to see if i can find anything on those lines and if i do i'll let you know... you may need to use a different program...

Not sure if this is what you're after, but the batch rename feature (under tools) has quite a few options, including moving files to a different folder and naming files based on date created. It also has a preview feature so that you can check that it's going to do what you want.
