Well i think i am finally going to take the leap to mac out.... mac book pro 15 inch i4s phone, all of my industry specific software is finally all web based now and i do photography as a hobbie. I want to get some software for the mac and not sure the best ones ti get. I have the creative suite cs3 on my pc now, i have just started using bridge but orior to that only used photoshop. I would also like to do some video editing, like cutting clips togerher, adding music etc. Should i buy the latest version of cs for mac, do i really need it, and are there any places that it can be down loaded for free, the out if pocket for the hardware is pretty significant...

Hello Jesse James,

Congratulations on the purchase. :)

To answer your question, Photoshop is not a free application and cannot be downloaded for free. If you are a student, you can receive a substantial discount, however.

Thanks,

Patrick

hi,
image editing weather to get the latest ps or not...
it all about what features do you want... and is the latest features in the latest programs how advantagious are they... now with photoshop cs5... there a lot of significatn improvents and new features which ilike for example... content aware rescaling and filling... that is really neat ...
to be able to change spect ratios without major distortions or to easily remove objects... it not perfect but tome it was really great....

now this link.... has 10 tutorials that addresses new features, and some of them addresses bridge enahncments, raw file enhancments , lens correction- take into accountr your camera lens... and few others...

http://www.msjphotography.com/index.php/category/video-tutorial/whats-new-in-photoshop-cs5/page/2/
you might want look around that site... the guy is good... lot to offer... he a photographer and he a expert on photoshop also and his other videos are nice...

definitely i suggest look at those tutorials ... and see if they really perk up your interest to the point of weather to get the latest... if you decide to then like patrick mentioned try to find a relative or good friined who has a access to the school store to get the photoshop cs5 at a huge discount... if i remember correctly about 50% cheaper...

note: adobe is working on a new sharpening feature -- seen some live videos on it and it so better light years ahead of what currently is in photoshop unfortuately at the earliest it will be in cs6 or cs7 i am hopeing that when thier finished they provide a patch for cs5.... but i don't they will do it... lolol....

as far as free video editors..... mmmm ... don't know much about what avail for macs although in generall there never a lot of software avail for them ... and so the free stuff going to be less...

again one needs to know what features you need ie ; just basics, or more advance ... for example a few years ago when i was looking , i wanted a video editor that icould easily insert animated gif and flash... and at that time my best (and limted choices) was ulead... however, at least for wintell pc's, a lot more of them can do that now.... but i got a feeling you have to pay for a good video editor,,,, or you get a package where it come with it... my roxio and a video editor that came with it... it pretty good but i'll be getting dedicated one here soon that will do more...

so again think about what features you need and who has them and go with that... of course almost all of them will demos avail... definitely go that route before buying..

Photoshop is pay software, but it's well worth it if you're serious about designing stuff :) If you can't buy it straight away but need to edit stuff I find pixlr to be a decent free alternative if you want to edit stuff on the go (but it's not near as powerful as PS of course!)

Well done on the new gear but I am a firm believer that its the software that does the grunt work. Macs look nicer (I work on them all day long) but you get A LOT MORE FOR YOUR MONEY on the PC route. Photshop is the one stop images editing software on either platform.
