Hello
I've been working on this layout for a while trying to figure out how to merge the image so that the background layer gives the foreground pictures the multiply blending mode without having to merge the background layer. Picture #1 Has the final effect i want for the forgeground pictures. Picture #2 has the pictures in normal blending mode. But I want to be able to merge the foreground pictures and have the multiply effect from the background with out having to merge the background as well.

Easy solution is to merge above it, let me explain..
Make a new layer on top.. (after you have created the look you want below on all the other layers) and hit ctrl+shift+alt+E.. it will make a complete image in the top layer..
Hope this helps..

i tried it but it merged everything to the top layer. See i need the 3d images and the title to have the multiply blend mode with out the background. When i hide the background and merge everyhting to the top layer the images return to the normal blend mode.

Do i understand it correctly if i say this:
you want the blending mode to work on teh background of the website, whatever it may be, so in essence it should work like that when you put it on a website, whatever the background may be?

Right!
there has to be a way to have the images ontop to receive the blending mode of the background. with out merging the background.
Because as you can see the background is a place holder. So instead of having a background for each example i would rather just have the images ontop as a PNG. Also since the images ontop have a white background thats the reason why i have the multiply blending mode.

Well as far as i know png has the disadvantage of not being fully supported by internet explorer.. since most people still use that, it could be a problem.
Secondly i don't think you can give a blending mode to a gif-file (alternative to png), so i don't know of a solution to your problem, but maybe someone else?

Ahh well than it is better to use png, it is supported by flash and has far better results than gif.
Now the way to solve part of this is:
For your letters, remove the white around and inside your letters and save that as a png with transparancy.. this way your letters will have the same effect as they have now. (and no blending required)
For your 3d images, i think the blending causes to loose the white on top, so remove it and as to the bottom, fade it out slowly so you'll have a gradual transition between the reflection and the background, when you save it as a transparant png.
Hope this helps..
