I have an issue with pasting in a new file. I have my file open and I try to paste a photo from another file into it and it just pastes a copy of the background layer of the it's own file. It's just cloning it's own layer. I'm at a loss as to what's happening because this is the first time this has ever occured. Any helped would be welcomed. |

Can you list the steps that you have taken? e.g
- what did you do to "select" the new file before pasting it? Is it actually a whole file, or is it a photo layer from a photoshop file?
- what did you do to initiate the "paste" into the current file?
A screenshot would be even better.
There are lots of ways to copy and paste, so it's hard to work out what the problem could be.
If you just have a file that you want to insert, you can use File>Place. (In CS5 this will add the inserted file on its own layer as a 'smart object'. You'll then need to rasterize it to change the pixels in that layer).
If the photo is a layer in another file, then you should be able to just drag that layer and drop into the new file. |

I'm opening a new document. This document is x by y in size and 300 pixels. Then I have several photos open that I wish to paste into that document to make a collage. I resize the photos and make sure the pixels of the photos match and then I save them... I select and copy one of them. And then I go to the new document and paste. It pastes a new layer that is an exact copy of itself, x by y in size and not the photo I have selected or copied. |
