Hello,
could anyone please help me with this strange behaviour?

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

This tearing of sorts only appears if I have hardwace acceleration ON, so it's graphics-related, my GPU is Mobility FireGL V5250 on IBM ThinkPad T60p. I already tried all kinds of different drivers, all the same, recently my system crashed and burned so I've got a clean Windows install, but nevertheless this still bugs me.

P.S. another wierd thing about this: at some zoom levels it disappears, if I zoom in a few steps or zoom out one step form default, it gets normal, only to screw up again if I change the zoom level.
P.P.S.Sometimes i get crazy stuff going on in sketchup or other 3d programs as well as a game Homeworld 2 goes to hell

I'm thinking that those might be related.

but for example on League of Legends all is dandy. ( sometimes it just refreshes the screen and shows "video card bla bla bla encountered an error and recovered from it")
Appreciate all the help.
Saulius.

HI,
definitely strange.... just some thoughts
1. try slowing, not turning off , the graphic acelerator and see if that helps....

2. now a couple of thevideo's it seems to me to to by sync issue... double check your video cable between the monitor and laptop and make sure thier seated well... have seen lose or dirty connector on desktop that were cause of similar sync problems....

3. this is a slim possiblity... is the gpu opengl capable... is it on or off..... not just on the system but within your photoshop.. this is a slim possiblity because it happening with other not adobe type programs...

and by the way... is this problem you have had for a long time or just recent... sometimes a update of some sort can cause issue or some other program causingconflicts ...

Thank you for your relply.

1) what do you mean slowing? switching in options to Basic or to downclock the GPU itself? Because i'ts already set to Basic in PS, because if I set it to Normal when PS starts, it automatically disables GPU acceleration. (advanced is even greyed out)

2) No it's not a sync issue, notice how in the videos I use both my laptop display and my 21" desktop, so it's not really monitor-dependant.

3) I certainly is, it wouldn't be possible to even switch on hardware acceleration if it wasn't.

Also, all the tests I throw at it seem to be passed without any promblems although in practice its not so well.

Thank you.

EDIT: I didnt get this computer new, so I'm not sure how it was back in the day, when I got this lappy, the first thing i did was wipe the system clean to get rid of all the crap that was stuffed onto it. PS and other graphics programs were never run on it before me, so I'm not sure when the problem appeared. What I'm pretty sure, is that it's definately not software related, because this persist even on a second clean reinstall, its not driver dependant, and occurs in various programs. I'm leaning toward a serious hardware screw-up but is it possible? And also, could it have something with the computer being dropped, hit or exposed to some other forms of domestic violence? The case is cracked in several places and the screen hinge is loose, so I assume this thing took a beating befor ending up in my hands..

hi,
Actually one of the primary things I thought about for causes was the gpu , but I didn't want to bring that subject untill othere possibilities, even remotely, thought about.

However, other things have been checked, monitor, cable, etc and the only things left is either a bad video connector or the gpu...

Bangup , cracks, in general poor physical condition on the outside... defintiely dropping and such can hurt the componets in side... that can crack lands Itiny wiring on the board, losinging soder joints and even damaging connectors can cause all sort of problems.....

example.. Had that happen to a expensive calculator one time, it got dropped and it work but not quite right after that, when i opened it up to investigate, noticed a a slight crack board that partially crack one of the lands (wiring) on the board and it was the cause of the issue i had with cal..

any way.. you maybe looking at getting another laptop or see if you can open it up and see ifthere any obvious damage.... as far as taking it to the shop... that canget expensive , may not be worth..
