When I have a 5x7 photo and I want to put some matting and a frame around it using photoshop, how can I retain the 5x7 size of the photo? I just can’t use “Image Size---“ dialog box because that will change the proportions of the photo. I can’t crop the photo because then I will cut some of the frame away. Do I have to resize the photo according to the size of the matting and frame?

Sounds like all you want to di is increase the cancas size..?

If so then you can go to image > canvas size and that'll do it for you.

webguy, thats how I put the matting and frame onto the picture using a bigger canvas. But thats my problem, now my 5x7 picture is bigger by what ever size the matting and frame is. What I'm trying to do is retain the 5x7 size.

Ok two ways:

either you can put the frame over the photo, so it will remain the 5x7 size but it will loose some parts because they will be covered now.

Or you can resize your photo first and put the frame around so you will end up with a total of 5x7 size.

Hope this helps..
