At the moment I am using the free Gimp software. This does most of what I need, but I have seen Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 for Mac going relativly cheap. I know it's not the latest version (which I doubt could run on my old OS 10.4 PPC G5 anyway) but is it going to be better than Gimp, or would it be a waste of money?
I hope to get a better understanding of photosop, and follow some of the many tutorials out there. These rarely refer to Gimp, which functions differently, and so are of little benefit.

hi,
personally, i think gimp is a much better program. it biggest problem i see is that the names of tools and features in many cases different andhense difficult when doing a photoshop tutorial...
one of the things about the element 5 which i worked with , it was a big hassle doing curves and not very good at that you were almost force to find a plugin that better... and there was a few other things... another about element 5 i didn't like , for exmple and this seems to be characteristics of element versions is that it slow ... on the same machine i had a ps cs1 and cs1 was a lot faster than that elements 5...
a couple ideas... if you can find ps cs3 cheap i gofor it instead elements 5 ...
or use elements 6 for your training ....
also there is a lot of gimp tutorials avail but one needs to look for them, and also go to the gimp forums...
