Hello!
I have just found this forum in order to learn PS better.
My friend asked me to do something for him. He wanted a web logo, but it looked like this: (pls see attached)
How can I remove all those unnecessay lines from the background?
Thank you very much, it is very cool to be a part of this community =)

There are several ways you could go about this. I'll assume you have basic knowledge of image editors.
First method
1. Create a white background and order it beneath your image
1. Start by using the rectangle selection tool to select and delete large sections of the lines
2. Use the lasso tool to delete finer details/lines
3. Use eraser / brush with white colour to delete the rest, adjusting brush sizes and zoom level as you go on
Second method A
1. Use the colour picker to select the colour of the lines
2. Create a layer underneath your image filled with that colour
3. Delete all the white (magic wand can work)
4. Flatten image
5. Delete the colour from step 1 from your image
Second method B
Open up Microsoft Paint
1. Use the colour picker to select the colour of the lines (right click with colour picker)
2. Create a new document filled completely with that colour
3. Paste your image on top of this
4. Copy image into Photoshop and delete colour from step 1 from image
Third method
1. If you have CS5, use various content-aware selection fills on the lines
Fourth method
1. Use magic wand or quick selection tool to select the lines and delete
Fifth method
1. Use magic wand or quick selection tool to select the parts that you want, then hit Ctrl + Shift + I to invert your selection, then hit delete
I'm not sure which of these methods would work best, but I decided to write them all out instead of try one so that in future you can handle more situations.

hi,
so many ways to do it...
i used the magic wand...
i picked a tolerace number that would allow me to
just select the outline of the objects and not thelines
in my case a tolorance of about 20 (maybe different) ..
then i click on a white ... this allowed selection
of everything except the letterin and the symbol.
and then did a inverse and copy and paste....
now you have a new layer ... with just what you want...

That's all right mate, I like helping
What Jerryb suggested is the same as my method 5, so perhaps that should be the first thing to try. It is also one of the easiest methods!

Its way easier than all that nightmare. Just create a solid color layer below and double click on the layer right of the layer name. You'll get blending options. Go the the Blend if section and slide the This layer white handle over till the lines dissapear. For better control hold the alt/option key when clicking the white handle. 10 seconds and your done.

I don't care what anyone says blend if is the future....
Hi stric9, welcome and great advice off the bat!
If I could offer a 'lil adjustment to your method, I would venture....
Open File>Ctrl+J>Turn off background>Blend If.
Can't see the need for the solid white layer, although forgive me if it's because of a solid white background and I need to slap myself.

No worries mate, was just my understanding that the grey lines were all that needed to go. And thanks for the kind words.
