I'm a novice Photoshop user but I've done this before with Photoshop elements and just watched a video on how to do it with CS5 so I'm pretty sure I can figure out how to do it in Photoshop. Of course there are a few different ways to do it and I'm not sure how on the sort of photo I have. So that's where i need the help. Its easier to add a sky to a landscape type photo.
I was talking pix yesterday of my friends biplane. He gives rides in it and pulls advertising banners. We needed some pix of ad banners for his website and I got some good ones yesterday. But it was a heavy gray ugly sky.
So I have a few nicer sky pix but the biplane and the banner are small with a lot of sky around them. Normally I make another layer with the sky and make out what I don't want to show (I think I described that correctly) so is there a better way for me to do this?
Would it some how be easier for me to put the plane and banner on the sky as opposed to how I usually do it with dropping the sky in to to the pix?

hi,
first there a lot of different way (techniques)s to do the same thing in ps and a lot depends on the image it self....
this is where if we had a sample image to look at and work with we can give you our thoughts on this ...
now sounds like you creating a mask or are you deleting the selection .. and then you put in your background to show thru ...
on the selection... you have cool feature called quick selection tool i use that in conjunction with refine edge feature ... to get a nice selection and from there you can delete or better create a mask ...
been looking a several tutorials on this and just so happen been looking at this one for any tips that others don't mentioned..

sometimes using your various blending meathods can be usefull... look at this one.

well i hope that give you some ideas sorry i could say specifically which one is better but that depends on the image and sometimes you end up experiementing which works better... |

Ok this is just one of the many pix I got, not the best and there are 3 different banners but this is similar to the rest of them.

The sky is pretty boring and I'd like to do something to jazz it up. Maybe somehow cut out the plane and the banner and add them to a pix with local buildings or the beach. Or an interesting sky.

hi,
thank you...
now i just did a quickie, the sky picture i had not that great had some texture but this only took a couple of minutes....
i used the blending meathod on this one......
i first did a curve adjustment to bring out reds and greens
then did alittle unmask sharp
then i brought in the sky ontop of my plane layer
then click layer style-blending
cycle thru the various blending and as it turned the darken blend worked pretty good... and this is the results..
note: a tip when you experimenting on cycleling thru the blends just click once on one andthen use arrow keys to cycle thru a lot easier and faster than clicking one at a time
