I have an image that is 2500px x 3600px (ish), it is a 240dpi file, I select crop tool and input 1200px x 1000px and 240 in the context sensitive menu, I now drag a crop area and instead of just a box of specific dimensions I get to drag the bounding box and it only seems to stay in proportion to my scale and not the exact dimensions specified. In effect I can drag the crop box outside the dimensions of the image, which seems to give a lie to the exact dimensions I in-putted - so, what gives?

Am I going mental and should I take Photoshop 101?

And if anyone says reset your pref file..... Mad

When you set the size and resolution with the crop tool, it will create those dimensions where you drag and maintain the aspect. Whether it is the entire image, just a section or even beyond the image.
